President’s Welcome

As I walk the halls of our schools every day, I think of the opportunity we provide to first-generation college bound, low-income students here at Sacred Heart Nativity Schools.

Our students live in worlds where no one in their family has attended college or, perhaps, even high school. Our students live in households where income may be uncertain and the only thing assured is the need for food and work. Here at school, we encourage our students to dream and grow – to believe in themselves and imagine a future filled with opportunity.

Sacred Heart Nativity Schools provides the opportunity for our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students to envision a future that includes college preparatory high school and future university study.  Every day our schools lay a foundation for broader horizons and economic mobility – every class period brings our students one step closer to breaking the cycle of poverty through education.

Sacred Heart Nativity Schools was founded in 2001 in order to provide a transformative education to low-income youth in San Jose. Fr. Mateo Sheedy’s dream and Fr. Peter Pabst’s legacy live on each day in our hallways and classrooms, and their efforts are carried within the hearts of our students and alumni as they continue their education in local high schools and universities across the nation.

This mission has transformed more than just our students and graduates – from the Founding Circle of benefactors who opened the school in 2001 to the army of volunteers that have carried this school forward into its second decade – the impact of those who have worked to make our school a reality continues to this very day.

We are grateful for so many that make our school possible. Thank you to our teachers and administrators who dedicate their lives to preparing, teaching, and supporting our students’ academic and spiritual development. Thank you to the hundreds of tutors who march through our hallways, working alongside our students. Thank you to the teams of volunteers and gift gathering party hosts who make our Fiesta Auction and Golf Tournament successful each year. Thank you to the committed benefactors who make an SHNS education possible and sustain us year after year.

We invite you to become a part of Sacred Heart Nativity Schools and partner with us to break the cycle of poverty through education!
