Sacred Heart Nativity Schools Graduate Support Director

The Director of the Graduate Support Program assists Nativity Graduates while they are in high school to make sure they receive the support needed to be successful. The Director serves as the liaison between Nativity Graduates, parents, high school counselors and the Nativity Schools Administration. In order to get to know Nativity students there will be teaching responsibilities included in the position.

By design, the position will require Director to have flexible hours as there will be some evening work for meeting with students, making home visits etc.

Position start date: July, 2008

HIGH SCHOOL SUPPORT
Student Support

  • Gather high school statistics/data locally, regionally, and participate in NativityMiguel Network events for GS
  • Organize and oversee the Graduate Tutoring Study Hall
  • Organize tutoring for Graduates to perform at SHNS
  • Establish Graduate Mentoring Program - an essential key to providing role models for our graduates as they progress through their education (planned)
  • Recruit and supervise volunteers to assist as tutors, mentors, etc.
  • Facilitate SAT Prep Class for Graduates
  • Assist Juniors and Seniors with College search, College application process and Financial Aid process (done in conjunction with high school counselor)
  • Organize visits to college and university campuses
School Personnel Support
  • Foster ongoing relationships with key high school personnel and the student leadership of local high schools
  • Work with College Admissions Officers, Advisors and Financial Aid Officers as needed (at high school and college levels.)
  • Research Scholarship opportunities available from local high schools and local / national organizations.


NATIVITY SUPPORT
Seventh Grade Support
  • Meet with students individually to discuss high school options and identify strengths & weaknesses - make plan for improvement/enrichment
  • Host a High School Night in October to explain to students and parents the merits of grades, test scores and improvement history in regards to high school admissions
Eighth Grade Support
  • Regularly meet with students individually to discuss high school options/progress
  • Assist family through the high school application process.
  • Assist family with financial aid applications for high schools
  • Host a High School Night in October
Staff / School Support
  • Teach one 6th grade class at SHN and one at OLG
  • Arrange a High School Night and a Career Day annually at Nativity
  • Maintain a Graduate Support File for each Nativity Graduate
  • Attend Staff & Faculty meetings
  • Participate in lunch/recess/activity supervision as requested by Principal
  • Assist Principal with student interaction as needed
  • Work with school counselor in providing Parenting Classes for 6th grade parents.


COMMUNITY SUPPORT
Parent / Family Support
  • Meet individually with the parents of Graduates to discuss student's performance in high school
  • Meet individually with the parents of 7th and 8th Graders to discuss the high school application process/financial aid process
  • Attend Parent/Teacher conferences as requested by Principal
College Support
  • Regularly scheduled calls/e-mail to graduates
  • Visit college campuses
  • Invite Graduates to Nativity events as speakers
Adult / Alumni Support
  • Develop a Nativity Alumni Association by maintaining contact with Nativity Graduates, organizing activities for them, and urging their involvement as a volunteer at Nativity
  • Recruit college Graduates to consider being Intern Teachers at Nativity
  • Invite Graduates to Nativity events
