Summer Leadership Training
Sacred Heart Nativity Schools offer a residential summer Leadership Training Camp in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. As part of the Nativity model, every student is required to attend this 2-week summer leadership-training program, which includes academics, fine arts, sports, and outdoor activities. This intensive education of the whole person requires various programs that speak to all areas of leadership growth and learning--physical, mental, spiritual and intellectual development.
An important part of the Leadership Training Camp is the socialization process that takes place. Elements of self-esteem, self-responsibility, and citizenship are emphasized in the program. Students who are new to the school, such as the 6th grade class, are brought to the Leadership Training Camp with the intention of instilling the values and hallmarks of the Sacred Heart Nativity Schools. Positive role modeling, respect for others, and discipline are important hallmarks of the Nativity school model.
A typical day at Leadership Training Camp is as follows:
- Fitness class
- Breakfast
- Academic classes - 3 hours, 6 days per week
- Lunch
- Independent reading
- 3 hours of afternoon activities including sports, hiking, or swimming
- Horseback riding and training
- Arts and crafts activities
- Dinner
- Evening organized sport activity
- Reflection period and prayer
- Prepare for bed
For two weeks, students undergo this rigorous and challenging schedule and begin to grow in self-confidence and leadership abilities, and ultimately become a part of the Sacred Heart Nativity Schools community.
Funding is needed to pay room and board for this leadership camp and for the cost of leadership development programs for students.
